Director David Schweizer and his design team presented a potent mix of modernism, Weimar cabaret, ragatag antiauthoritarianism, and an acknowledgement of the work's grim birthplace, all captured in visually striking terms that never strayed from the thematic intentions of the opera itself. Their work was simply superb.
